Attica - Leston L. "Bus" Alward, 93, of 1108 S Council St, Attica, died at 3:46 a.m. Monday March 21, 2005 at Woodland Manor Nursing Center. Born April 30, 1911 in Parke County, he was a graduate of Wallace High School in 1929.  He married Imogene Banta Sept 21, 1937 and she preceded him in death on Aug 7, 1996.  He married Zana Pogue Hinton on June 6, 1998 in Attica and she survives. During World War II, Mr. Alward worked at Allison's in Indianapolis.  In 1953, he and his first wife purchased the Skelgas Co in Rockville, operating the company until 1963. They also owned and operated Alward Nursing Home in Attica from September 1962 through December 1973. They opened the Woodland Manor Nursing Center in Attica in July of 1972 with their daughter which is still owned by the family.  He was a member of the Attica-Williamsport Presbyterian Church.  He was a 50-year member of Wallace Masonic Lodge 455 and Order of Eastern Star Fountain Chapter 204. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and Murat Shrine of Indianapolis.  Mr. Always enjoyed Western Square dancing and wintering in Florida. Surviving with his wife are his daughter, Linda Brown (husband: Scott) of Attica; and a brother, John Q Alward (wife: Stella) of Wallace. - kbz

"Funeral Notices: - Leston L. Alward - friends may call 5-8 p.m. today at Maus Funeral Home in Attica. Services there 1 p.m. Wednesday March 23, Pastor Daniel Bloesch officiating.  Interment Wolf Creek Cemetery. Surviving are a granddaughter, Lor Miller (husband: Brent) and a great granddaughter, Kylie Miller both of Bloomington.  Preceded in death by two brothers, Stanton and Cliston Alward.
